Yvrose, our Administrative Director in Haiti, celebrated a dream come true last month when she earned her Accounting Certification. As a first generation graduate in her family, this is a huge success that came with significant trials and hardship. Yvrose’s story paints a picture of how God uses Hope through Education to change a person, a family, a community, and the world for His good!
Yvrose grew up in a poor, rural town with limited opportunities for education. As a teen, she moved away from her family to pursue school beyond 6th grade, which was the highest level offered in her community. Yvrose received her high school diploma, which opened up further doors of opportunity, but after graduating, she experienced relational brokenness and significant financial difficulties as she navigated life as a young, single mom.
In 2016, Yvrose learned about a little school a few miles outside of Lascahobas that was seeking to hire an Administrative Director. After participating in the interview process, she went above and beyond to ensure that she was hired by offering to volunteer and “prove herself.” After two months of hard work, we were impressed and excited to welcome Yvrose, and her son, into the One 17 family!
Once settling into our team, Yvrose shared her desire and determination to obtain her accounting certificate. We encouraged her to pursue the certification and offered to enroll her into our staff tuition assistance program which helps to pay for higher education and professional development opportunities for our team. Fast forward four years and we are all celebrating her accomplishment! We are so proud of Yvrose’s perseverance and look forward to seeing her use her degree to continue providing hope through education at One 17.
