YEAR IN REVIEW

A note from our Executive Director

Looking back on the 2019-20 school year, it is remarkable to consider all of the ways that we were challenged by unexpected circumstances. Equally important, it is remarkable to consider all of the ways that God remained faithful and provided in the midst of those challenges. The coronavirus pandemic impacted every corner of the world. No person, organization, church, or business was immune to those challenges. Through it all, we remained focused on our call to serve the left behind and lived into the vision of Isaiah 1:17 as we served our students, staff, and communities.

The most compelling part of this ministry year was watching God mobilize people to step into difficult situations and lead our mission forward. From indigenous leaders developing solutions to local challenges to watching our donor base sacrifice in the midst of economic uncertainty, we cannot help but find joy in the trials and celebrate all of the ways God transformed difficulties into opportunities for impact.

Speaking of impact, thank you for your impact. Every statistic and story is a direct result of your prayers and generosity. Thank you for helping to make hope through education possible for the left behind!

Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance.

Students

Our student population grew from 177 to 501 as we launched a new campus in Haiti and a new partnership in Cambodia.

Growth

Sreytouch’s story

Sreytouch and her twin sister are enrolled at New Hope School in Cambodia where less than 2% of the population is Christian. After hearing the story of Abraham and Isaac for the very first time, Srey grieved in the arms of her teacher. She cried out to her teacher that she wished she had a father like Abraham to hug her, but her father is not present in her life. Srey’s teacher hugged her back and assured her that she does have a father, a heavenly father, who loves her even more than Abraham loved Isaac.

Staff

Our international staff grew from 25 to 47 leaders. We empowered three teams in two countries to serve our students and lead through challenges.

Wisline’s Story

Wisline serves in a dual role at our second campus in Haiti. She's the Assistant Principal as well as the lead teacher for our Kinder 1 class. This summer, when our Campus 2 Principal experienced a personal tragedy, Wisline emerged as an extraordinary leader. She provided direction, accountability, and was consistently available to our team. We are so excited to see Wisline continue to grow in this next year and we know that God is going to continue to do great things through her leadership!

Spiritual Impact

Our schools exist to help students discover who they are in Christ and what they are created to do. Our Bible Curriculum is a core aspect of our impact strategy. We saw God move in powerful ways as He deepened our students' faith.

New Hope

After launching our Bible Curriculum in Cambodia, 33 students accepted Christ for the first time. Through the generosity of our donors, we were able to purchase and distribute the Khmer Jesus Storybook Bible to all of our students just weeks before the pandemic. Our students continued to meet in small groups to study the Word and shared the hope of Jesus with their families during a time of great uncertainty in our world.

deeper impact

In Haiti, 60 new students learned about Jesus through our to our Bible Curriculum for the very first time. We also created and implemented a new curriculum series for our 5th grade students that focuses on "Thinking, Acting, and Being" like Jesus.

Haiti Spotlight

Our indigenous team in Haiti persevered through political instability, the loss of two members of our student body, and operational challenges caused by the pandemic to provide excellence in service to students at two campuses.

Campus 2 Launch

We are officially a multi-site school in Haiti. After years of hard work, our donors, volunteers, and staff were able to fulfill our 5-year vision for growth! The second campus is located in Sarazin, Haiti.

Remote learning

Our Haitian Staff displayed perseverance and creativity throughout the pandemic. They created and distributed remote learning packets to all of our students. Our students were able to complete this year's curriculum and take their final exams in September.

Cambodia Spotlight

During our first year of ministry in Cambodia, we collaborated with the team at New Hope School to pursue a greater impact while also discerning the future of our partnership. God moved in remarkable ways as we developed relationships with the staff, provided training, implemented our Bible Curriculum, and navigated challenges together. We are now committed to a second year of partnership with long-term plans for a merger.

One 17 Challenge

More than 50 volunteers participated in our annual justice-focused fundraiser by walking 1 mile barefoot and collectively raising $27,602 to provide tuition to students in Haiti and Cambodia.

Income: $394,595

Expense: $309,107

Note: Campus Development expenditures were below our budgeted amount due to construction delays caused by the pandemic. These delays led to a higher percentage of our expenses going towards administration and fundraising than normal.
