“Have you ever stepped outside your comfort zone and tried something completely new?”
At Campus 2 in Haiti, our hopes of a new building were met with an unexpected challenge - inflation was stretching our budget beyond what we had already planned for. Determined to stay positive and discover a solution, we turned to the power of collective thinking and got creative. The idea emerged to ask the parents of our students for help. Could they be the key to overcoming this financial hurdle?
Through prayer and tremendous efforts to engageparents, 45 moms and dads from our second campus enthusiastically embraced the challenge! They selflessly volunteered their time, energy, and talents to dig the foundation for our new building. It was a true testament to the strength of our community. Through their selfless efforts, we were able to save $5,000! We deeply thank every parent who participated in helping One 17 continue to grow and flourish.
As we reflect on these incredible parents, one individual, in particular, stood out as an exceptional leader during this challenge. Casinord (Kah-see-noh), a parent of a 2nd-grade student named Carmona (Kah-moh-nuh) at Campus 2 and a dedicated security agent, took on the responsibility of overseeing and organizing all of the volunteers. His passion and commitment truly exemplifies the spirit of our community.
Through selfless collaboration, we not only overcame a financial obstacle but we were able to provide an amazing opportunity to empower parents in a whole new way. By participating in the construction of their child’s educational environment, parents became stakeholders in their child’s learning development in a new way. We believe education is a collaborative effort that should involve everyone in the community.
A Bright Future Ahead
With combined efforts of our parents and the community, we are excited to announce that the $165,000 building at Campus 2 is almost 50% complete. This building will include a library, three classrooms, and administrative offices. We look forward to welcoming our students when we open this fall for the 23-24 school year.
We celebrate this incredible achievement through the power of unity, collaboration, and the commitment of our community. We know that obstacles can be transformed into opportunities and the future for our students and One 17 is bright.
