The Communications Specialist will help us fight for students who lack access to education and the Gospel by developing compelling stories of impact, supporting fundraising efforts, and implementing our communication and marketing strategy.

Areas of Responsibility

Communications Specialist

Develops creative content that helps One 17 raise awareness and resources for our mission. Deliverables:

  • Collaborates on the development of a marketing and communication plan that includes social media, email campaigns, and awareness campaigns

  • Implements and executes the marketing and communication plan

  • Collaborates with Haiti and Cambodia Marketing Coordinators monthly to learn stories of impact and develop content for our website, mailers, and social media

  • Creates and posts 8-10 social media updates per month including 1-2 videos/reels

  • Develops and sends 1-2 email campaigns per month

  • Builds, maintains, and improves our website on an ongoing basis

  • Creates and updates “About One 17” flyers and marketing materials annually

  • Provides leadership and direction to the creation of our Annual Report, Year-End Gift Catalog, and other marketing booklets annually

  • Develops and sends three updates for our recurring donors (Keyholder Community) annually

  • Builds a team of volunteers or interns to provide support to marketing and communications

Development Assistant

Provides support to One 17’s fundraising efforts and donor care initiatives by developing content, proposals, and supporting programs. Deliverables:

  • Leads our donor care program ensuring that individuals and partners are shown appreciation in a creative, authentic, timely manner

  • Draft impact reports and donor proposals in support of org-wide fundraising efforts

  • Research, write, and submit eight grants per year

  • Recruit and coordinate a group of volunteers to send mailers 6-8 times per year

  • Provide administrative support to fundraising teams (event teams, development committee, etc)

  • Assist the Executive Director and Director of Operations with scheduling donor and partner meetings

Qualifications

  • Expresses and demonstrates a Christ-centered worldview personally and professionally

  • Resonates personally with One 17 International’s mission 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Business, Marketing, Ministry, or equivalent degrees

  • Minimum of 3 years experience working in communications, marketing, media, or fundraising and development

  • Possesses the ability to work independently and collaboratively

Role Details

Job Title: Communications Specialist

Status: Regular Part-time, Exempt (24 hours/week)

Supervisor Title: Executive Director

Location: This position is based out of Zeeland, Michigan; however, we are open to hiring a remote teammate who resides in Columbus, Ohio, or Central, Indiana where One 17 is well-rooted with donors and volunteers. If the employee joins from Indiana or Ohio, we will expect the teammate to travel to our headquarters in West Michigan quarterly for team-building and strategic meetings.

International Travel: This team member will be expected to join our staff on mission trips up to 10 days per year.

Hours Note: There is potential to increase hours to 32 per week if the right candidate can take on additional responsibilities.

Salary & Benefits

Status: Regular Part-time, Exempt

Base Wage & Salary: $22.00-$24.00 per hour | $27,456-$29,952 annually

Hours Expectation: 24 hours per week

Healthcare Contribution (added to salary): $1,290 annually.

401k Non-elective Employer Contribution (10% of salary): $2,874-$3,124 annually

Phone Reimbursement: $480 annually.

TOTAL COMPENSATION: $32,100-$34,846 annually.
